ABB TB840 ModuleBus Modem

The ABB TB840 is a ModuleBus Modem that serves as a fiber optic interface to the Optical ModuleBus. It finds use in redundancy configurations where each module connects to different optical ModuleBus lines, but all connect to the same electrical ModuleBus.

The TB840 can connect a maximum of 12 I/O modules to the electrical ModuleBus and up to seven clusters to the fiber optic ModuleBus. The fiber optic interface is intended for local distribution of I/O clusters and where more than 12 I/O modules are required in an I/O station.

The TB840 is used together with the HI Controller. It also works with the TU840 and TU841, which are MTUs for redundant TB840/TB840A, with dual and single ModuleBus respectively.

The TB840 is a part of the S800 I/O system, a comprehensive, distributed, and modular process I/O system that communicates with parent controllers and PLCs over industry-standard field buses. This makes it a crucial component in various industrial automation applications.
